I love listening to marching band music, especially Jackson State University, in Mississippi. They play a song called " Black and Blues", but I can't seem to find the "Real" song or who it is by. If you need to hear the song, go to this link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7×3a0GGkCKU. Please Help! Thanks!
Whoops! Sorry…that link didn't work. Here it is…. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7×3a0GGkCKU

It is called "Black and Blue"'. The music is by Fats Waller and the lyrics(when present) are written by Andy Razaf. It is also called "(What did I do to be so) Black and Blue". It is in the musical "Ain't Misbehavin' " which is based on Waller/Razaf tunes. The brassy arrangement on the video is faster than the original.

im not being racist against the south but y do the universities with the most black schools dance and are more talented more such as Atlanta schools/ Louisiana school, than the ones of the west coast such as cali, washington, oregon marching bands….again im not being discriminant against other races…serious answers plz

I'm a classically trained musician and have marched the upper echelon of 'serious' marching bands and drum corps (serious marching band-there's a contradiction in terms!). I actually make my living writing marching band drill. There are many people in the music education profession that look down on the bands you are referring to, but I thankfully am not one of them. I love the energy that comes from these groups. It is very entertaining and especially with college bands, that is what it is all about. As for why these bands incorporate more dance and energetic routines into their shows, I would have to guess tradition. Someone did it once, it caught on and they've been doing it ever since. It's pretty much tradition for the other side of it as well. I have appreciation of all these marching groups, whether it's Ohio State, the Ocean of Soul at TSU or the Santa Clara Vanguard.
