So for marching band, we cover the joints of our clarinets with black electrical tape, but it leaves this nasty residue. It won’t come off with water and a paper towel, and I don’t know what to use that would be safe on the clarinet. It’s a plastic clarinet, but i don’t want to take off the polish. Help! thanks ![]()
I’ve actually have Goo Gone! I didn’t know if it would be safe or not…
go to a hardware store and get Goo Gone.
It works on everything and especially with taking off sticky residue from tape.
Here is a pic so you know what to look for.

you can get this stuff called sticky stuff remover (honest!).. you could very carefully try nail varnish remover, but that may damage in varnish

wd-40 it works

"Goo Gone" is too strong ! Use mineral oil or vegetable oil.

If you have a wood clarinet…. DO NOT…. use any chemical. It will hurt the glue in and around the joints and could change the color of your clarinet. I fine cloth with a little mineral oil on it will work. The music store should have bore oil for wooden instruments. <– is what I would recommend at the best. It is made for using on wooden instruments. clarinets, oboes and bassoons.
