I’m a black girl and I feel ugly because I am black. Similar experiences? Advice?
I’m brown skinned but I’m always worried about getting darker. I was in marching band and I went to band camp where we had to be outside for hours. I got really dark and I felt so ugly. I have regular, boring, average, dark brown eyes. I hate it. I think it’s so boring, but I think colored contacts don’t look real and just make someone look insecure like they’re unhappy with the way they look or they need colored contacts to feel pretty. I think they just look weird. The colors aren’t realistic and they don’t look like real eyes. I have a round nose. ugh. I hate my nose. I think my face is so boring. I’m envious of Latina girls or Middle Eastern girls because they look exotic. They all look different and some of them have very pretty eyes. They also have long hair that they don’t have to worry about it falling out for putting too much heat on it, sticking straight up in the air, falling out for sleeping on the wrong kind of pillow or not oiling it. ugh. I just don’t like being me. I don’t like being black.
How can I get over this and find beauty within myself?
I feel so ugly all of the time and I’m tired of it. I’m tired of looking at other girls and thinking "Why can’t I be like that?" I know this sounds bad, but it’s just the way I feel. Please give advice or similar experiences and what you did to overcome it. Thanks!
first of all I only have one white friend. the rest of my friends are black. get your facts straight before you start running off at the mouth
OMFG I am a black girl. I’m not a troll, or in other words a coward, who gets online in their free time and tries to put other people down to make themself feel better yet they don’t have the balls to say that sh!t to someone’s face.
You’re not alone.

I don’t believe you’re really a "black girl" because most black girls have a high self-esteem (even when sometimes they shouldn’t).
Nice try, though!

First of all you are not ugly you are child of God and you have meaning and purpose to offer the world. Just because so called beauty is blond hair and blue eyes does not always make it so. Jesus is most like not white and could have black blood in him. You not ugly i repeat and there many beautful women of color out there. Have not you heard black is beautful and never forget it. Work it girl and do your thing. Shake what your mama give yah.

As far as being worried about becoming dark black… that’s actually beautiful in my opinion. I think all of the most gorgeous black girls aren’t even remotely light skinned. As a matter of fact, I think the darker your skin is as a black girl, the more "exotic" you look. So there you go. You’re exotic too… you just don’t see it because of your low self esteem. Hold your head up and be proud of who you are.
References :
Talk for yourself… people tell me I look "exotic" all the time whatever that’s suppose to mean. I have no similar experiences. All I can tell you is you’re stuck with your face for the rest of your life. So you better love it. All black girls do not look the same. I look somewhat Native American

it is shallow to worry about skin color, you need to realize its the person you are and how you act that matters. if other people cant see that then thats their problem. be confident in yourself and proud of who you are, skin color has nothing to do with who you are, good luck girly

Honey, be proud of your heritage, first of all. You come from a strong people. Think about who you come from: Harriet Tubman, Martin Luther King, Jr., Crispus Attucks. Not only that, but civilization started in Africa. How amazing is that. And there are so many gorgeous black women out there, like Tyra Banks and Iman. And you’re one of them. You just don’t realize it.
Second of all, there is no such as ugly brown eyes. Brown eyes are gorgeous. Common, yes, but beautiful just the same.
And dark skin is beautiful. It looks very rich and ethnic.
If you’re worried about it, just keep your skin taken care of so it looks healthy and soft. Maybe get a really nice weave, or just embrace who you are. Black is beautiful, baby. Be thankful. God bless.

Well, you can’t do much about how you look, so why not appreciate what you have? Embrace your skin because it’s beautiful and doesn’t show imperfections such as pimples and wrinkles as obviously as paler skin. If you find your face to be boring, play it up with makeup. Also, enjoy the versatility of your hair. I had plenty of Middle Eastern friends who couldn’t do ANYTHING to their hair because it was so straight, it wouldn’t hold curls for more than an hour.

I think that you shouldn’t compare yourself with other girls. you have a beauty that they don’t have.so they shouldn’t compare themselves to you either. Black women have beautiful features, and you need to think about trying to make those features look even more beautiful. then you’ll see that you are a lot more beautiful then you give yourself credit for.

experience: i used to have very long, straight hair (3 1/2 ft.) and it went down to my knees, i got really tired of it, so i cut it off. but now it’s really thick and wavy, I used to HATE it so much! i asked my mom if i could buy a straightener, and straighten it everyday, but she said that was to unhealthy. so later, i was just like, that’s it, i shouldn’t be obsessing over my hair, im done, so the last choice i had was to except it, except my hair, except myself.
advice: you should except yourself, like i excepted myself. Be proud that your black, because of all the history made by your race. Be proud for that opportunity u have

It sounds like to me that you haven’t met the right brutha and had him kick it to you correct. There are bruthas out there who prefer dark skinned black women. In fact there are plenty of men out there who prefer your type, black, white, brown, red, and yellow men. They are out ther and they prefer your type.
The shame here is that you seem to wish to be something other than who you are. It sounds like a recipe for a lifetime of unhappiness unless you change your attitude about yourself.

Hon, you so aren’t alone.
When is was in school a couple years ago, the kids teased me ALL THE TIME because I happened to be Japanese in a dominant white school. They would squish their eyes together and go "ching chong ching" or say things like "Thanks for Pearl Harbor!" I hated how I looked for it. I thought something was wrong with me.
But then one day I realized that I am very beautiful. We all are. Everyone is equal in beauty, regardless of skin tone, features, whatever. I hope you realize this soon.

There is nothing wrong with dark people. You need to go with what God gave you and stop looking at other people for your standard of beauty. There are many celebrities that have dark skin just like you, and they don’t seem to be suffering. Maybe you can look to them as role models.

God made u black because that is how he wanted u to look. U should be proud of who and what u are! Don’t let hollywood tell u what is beautiful and what is not! If you are unhappy with the way u look do something that will make u feel better from the inside out like yoga or jogging. If you are healthy you are happy! Hell, go get a pedicure that always makes me feel better. And if u get in the sun and get darker than your natural skin color use lemon juice to get your skin back to its normal color. Trust me it works. Put it on with a cotton ball before going to bed and rinse it off in the morning.

it’s really sad that people are so pressured to have light skin…it really is. all skin colours are beautiful, and it’s no different for black women. accept what you have, and be proud of it. if you don’t want your skin to get any dark (and your happy with your naturally skin tone) then wear some sun screen, don’t make your skin colour any lighter or darker than it is unless it’s something you can’t help. you’ll never feel beautiful if you’re in denial that you are.
i think dark brown eyes are beautiful, and give out an edgy look. that’s my opinion, though. would you rather have eyes that are "regular, boring, average, dark brown" or eyes that "aren’t realistic and they don’t look like real eyes"? it’s your decision, and you have every right to do what you want to make yourself happy.
the hair that you have was given to you for a reason. the hair that latinas and middle easterns have was giving to them for a reason. you’ll never be able to change your hair, so live with it and learn to love it. you can find beauty in anything if you’re looking for it.
you can dislike being black all you like, but keep on doing it and you’ll live a miserable life. there’s nothing in the world that could change the fact that you’re black. the only way around it is to love being who you are.

I used to hate my skin color (dark brown/tan) for years, I was influenced by the American culture and people, when I was a kid I was only seeing white people in the Disney cartoons I had, I used to cry in front of the mirror for being ugly, years later, after the mid of my adolescence, I discovered that God had compensated me with a great body and talents which people nowadays envy me for.
I then have discovered that the white girls I love likewise love me and are attracted to my skin which I used to hate, and also they love the talents I have. There are reasons and wisdoms why we are all different, so we help and complete each others in some way, and for the world go around in another way.
Haven’t you learned something from Michael Jackson? After he turned white he tells everybody "It doesn’t matter if you’re black or white," take it from someone who had been there, and in his video ‘You rock my world’ he picked a dark Asian young lady, watch ‘American History X,’ the Nazi man in the movie admits the same.
I realized recently that the real beauty is when you become yourself, and when you’re proud of being yourself. I don’t anymore hate my skin, I like it, because whom I like her skin also likes my skin, because we were for each others, and who’s not agreeing with you about yourself is not actually for you, and you shouldn’t worry about them.
I’m sure you have more than your appearance which you’re not satisfied with, and anyone you would be caring your appearance for would like you for those things inside you.
One last thing, some white beautiful women who I always wanted to be with turned out to be thick blooded and not good, for that I couldn’t approach or continue with them. So, it’s not only the appearance to count in.

Your not black, your brown, that’s your natural skin tone correct? Than stop labeling yourself as a "black" girl, all color are equal
your hair is a reflection of you, caring what others think about it won’t ever help, now will it? I know in today’s society people judge the human body more than personality, but those who don’t will see how truly beautiful and special you are. I know it’s hard not to feel jealous but that’s ok, it’s part of the human nature, but in the end just remember who you real is, you have an entire life ahead of you, why care what others think about you? As long as your being yourself, Thats all that really matters
don’t listen to those whose trying to lock you down and make you feel like you don’t have a choice, you do have a choice, but I personally I suggest you follow the one in your heart, trust me it’ll work

I heard almost exact same types of complaints from white, or asain, or latinas. Being black has nothing to do with what you are feeling.

there is ugly in every race.
there is pretty in every race.
there’s no default ugly or pretty race, sweety.
and you’re ALWAYS going to be you so i suggest getting used to it.
you can get a nose job. but hair. buy makeup. but YOU are always goingto be underneath there. so….
"work with what you got" is some good advice i heard.
and if you don’t think black girls are pretty then dare to be different and think positive: "Well, atleast I AM a pretty girl tho"
hope that helps.

I’m sorry you feel that way because I feel LUCKY to be black. Think of if this way…
Your the only race that has dark skin and unique hair that can be done in sooooo many ways (I mean-dreads, afro, braids, extensions, etc. Have you seen those black hair magazines? They are amazing).
Your the only race who have unique features such as a broad nose, juicy lips, silken youthful skin, natural athleticism, voluptuous curves, etc.
You come from great people-the Egyptians and Nubian’s, MLK, Harriet Tubman, Fredrick Douglas, Malcom X, etc
You are admired by men ALL OVER the world because of your unique features and skin. (Have you been to Europe? It’s almost overwhelming the attention you get for being black there)
And the best part?
When all your white friends are getting old and crusty at 60 and 70. You’ll look 40 or 30 because black skin is very elastic and smooth. Black don’t crack.
Being black is AWESOME!!! Accept it the gift and respect it.
